SALA & THE STRANGE SOUNDS - #Fotomatic (2015)

SALA & THE STRANGE SOUNDS es una banda nacida en el 2009 en Londres con componentes de varias nacionalidades y grandes conexiones musicales con España, de echo residen aquí actualmente donde tienen legiones de fans forjados después de innumerables conciertos sobretodo en la capital. Y es que son sobretodo carne de directo y así lo demuestran a través de su segundo LP editado, el contestatario y vigoroso #Fotomatic (2015), que desde el minuto cero provoca que no dejes de brincar mientras lo vas devorando.

Ecos añejos de The Clash ("Fotomatic" o "I Get Fucked"); Ramones ("Take It"); Stray Cats ("This Old Town"); The Kinks ("Shout")... SALA & THE STRANGE SOUNDS no solo compilan flashes de lo mejor de la historia del rock&roll más enérgico, sino que también muestran su cara más dócil como en "What Is It To Be Loved", "Still On My Mind" o la acústica "Kali Ali". 

Rebosan descaro y eso hace por ejemplo que se atrevan incluso a versionar al legendario "Yes Sir I Can Boogie" de las Baccara junto a Mayte Mateos (su cantante original), una auténtica delicia que cierra un disco bárbaro.

THE GACHISES - De Beceite a Stalingrado (2013)

Almudena Luque, Anna Paradís, Lidia Serrano y Iris Urbano son cuatro jóvenes de Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona), son descaradas y talentosas, son The Gachises. Estamos de enhorabuena ya que el panorama rock femenino estatal lo tenemos más bien escaso de miembros y estas chicas parece que han venido para quedarse. Su punk-rock heredado de bandas legendarias como pueden ser Aerolineas Federales o los mismísimos Ramones, introducen una bocanada de aire fresco al panorama musical independiente actual. 

Esta banda formada hace escasamente un año ya tiene su primer trabajo discográfico, De Beceite a Stalingrado (2013). Grabado a finales del año pasado en Invasionate Records por Roger Martínez que colabora también con las voces en uno de sus temas, "Operación Verano".

Made In America - Terry Malts "Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere" (2013)

I could easily rattle off a handful of bands that have been directly influenced by The Ramones, most of who couldn't escape the gravity of their influences and effectively became clones of them. Ramones Clones if you will. That would be a good name for a tribute band...trademark.

San Francisco's Terry Malts managed to free themselves from the near inescapable pull of their influences with last year's Slumberland Records release Killing Time, taking a familiar sound and making it their own. Their 2013 release Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere, also out on the Slumberland label, continues where Killing Time left off. Singer/bassist Phil Benson's Morrisey-like crooning vocals, perfectly compliment guitarist Corey Cunningham's fuzzy power chords and drummer Nathan Sweatt's time keeping.

Made In America - Bad Sports, "Bras" (2013)

Musica Cronica's Made In America is back from vacation and man was it ever an exciting August for music fans in the States. First let me address "vacation" from an American point of view. Americans don't generally take vacations like Europeans do. We spend a lot of time hoping that a national holiday falls on a Friday or a Monday where we can have three days off instead of two and during that time off we just think about how to work more. Basically, Americans work and then they die.

Now on to the music! August brought us the highly anticipated reunion of The Replacments. Twenty-one years ago after their last gig, Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson reunited on stage at Toronto's Riot Fest. Of course I couldn't go because I had to work.
