Made In America - NUDE BEACH, "77" (2014)

Brooklyn based Nude Beach have been churning out melodic 70's flavored power-pop since around 2008 when Chuck Betz, Ryan Naideau and Jim Shelton formed the band. After two full-length albums that skirted the line of angsty rock with hints of early Elvis Costello and the classic jangle-pop of Big Star, Nude Beach have gracefully matured into blue-collar classic rock territory that sure to evoke feelings of those past warm summer evenings with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers playing over your FM airwaves.

Nude Beach's third album 77, set for an October 21st release through Don Giovanni Records, will be a double-album that's sure to deliver you straight to the American heartland so grab a cooler full of beer and your best friends and light the bonfire, it's going to be a fun night.

Made In America - EX HEX "Hot and Cold" 7" (2014)

With the future of Wild Flag up in the air, guitarist Mary Timony (Helium, Autoclave) decided to formed a new band called Ex Hex and signed to Merge Records at the end of last year. A power-pop trio, Ex Hex, along with Timony is made up of bassist Betsy Wright (The Fire Tapes) and drummer Laura Harris (Aquarius). The Washington, D.C. based band will release their debut 7" single via the Merge label on March 18th and follow with a full length album later this year.

Made In America - Deathfix (2013)

Brenden Canty (Fugazi and Rites of Spring) and Rich Morel (Blowoff) met while touring in the backup band for Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar) in 2009. The two, connected by a love for 1970's glam/prog/pop-rock, began collaborating on songs over the next two years and recruited multi-instrumentalists Devin Ocampo (Faraquet, Medications) and Mark Cisneros (Medications) to form Deathfix.

Deathfix released their self-titled debut on Dischord Records earlier this year. The seven song album has a nostalgic feel to it but it doesn't commit fully to just rehashing that 70's sound. There's evident influences from the likes of Deep Purple, Big Star, and Mott The Hoople but Deathfix manages to impart their own post-punk/alt-rock flavor to the recipe creating a flavor all their own.

For those of you paying attention, Deathfix may seem like an outside-of-the-box move for the D.C. based Dischord Records who made their name churning out independent hardcore and punk music over the years but then again this is just like Dischord who have never played by the rules.
