Made In America - GENERATIONALS, "Heza" (2013)

Last week we brought you Dumb Numbers, the super group that tread heavily into early grunge inching their way into near doom territory. That fit the mood I was in last week. Lately I've been in the mood for some tuneage of the poppier variety and Generationals scratches that itch nicely.

Heza, out on Polyvinyl Records is the third album released by the New Orleans, Louisiana based duo. Fans of the T.V. show Grey's Anatomy might know Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer's former band The Eames Era. After the breakup of The Eames Era, the two remaining members formed Generationals in 2009.

Made In America - Cayucas

Zach Yudin is a Santa Monica, California native and multi-instrumentalist that records under the name Cayucas. Taking a couple of songs written previously under the moniker Oregon Bike Trails, Yudin refined his sound, changed names to Cayucas, recruited a band, and added a sugar-sweetened handful of pop gems that makes the debut album Bigfoot.

Bigfoot is filled to the brim with the kinds of songs that I look for when putting together a summer playlist. It bleeds that classic Beach Boys echoy sound with soothing Africanesque rhythms that remind me of a more laid back Vampire Weekend. These are the songs you want to have with you while bumming around the beach this summer, staring at that evening blood-orange sky, beer in hand, life firmly in check.

Bigfoot drops April 30th on the SecretlyCanadian label.
